More Than 4000 chemical compounds can be created by burning a cigarette – 69 of those chemicals are known to cause cancer. 43 known carcinogens are in mainstream smoke, sidestream smoke or both. Cigarette use by pregnant women has also been shown to cause birth defects (which include mental and physical disability)
Each cigarette that is smoked is estimated to shorten life by 11 minutes.
In December 2000, Canada became the first country to enforce graphic warning on cigarette packaging.
